FAQ

What is "Foodhisattva"?

Who is Satoshi?

The name Satoshi (聡, 智, 哲) reflects intelligence, perception, and wisdom—ideals deeply rooted in Buddhist philosophy. 聡 speaks to keen awareness and quick understanding, echoing the mindfulness practiced in daily life. 智 represents enlightenment and insight, aligning with the pursuit of deeper wisdom. 哲 embodies philosophical thought and introspection, capturing the contemplative spirit that our Satoshi lives by.

Satoshi the Sloth carries these values with calm grace. A natural herbivore and serene little monk, he feels right at home at Foodhisattva.

He’s best known for his gentle motto: “Good food takes time.” A loyal admirer of Thích Nhất Hạnh and his tradition of Engaged Buddhism, Satoshi brings a peaceful presence—and, let’s be honest, an overload of cuteness—to everything he does.

Do you require reservations?

No, we do not. That said, our space is small so we do recommend you make a reservation in the following situations: If your party is 4 or more people, and if you're dining with us during peak hours or on holidays.

If you're coming from a far distance, it's a good idea to make a reservation as well.

You can make a reservation by filling out the form under the "order" tab on our website.

Do you cater?

Yes, but the size of our space and team requires us to focus on small scale catering. If interested, contact us and we'd be happy to discuss catering your event. Please give us at least 2 weeks notice for catering gigs.

Does your pastrychef take special orders?

Yes. If there is a dessert special you love and you'd like to order it for your next event, contact us and we can discuss it. Our baker's schedule fills up fast so the earlier you let us know, the better.

Seasonally based desserts may not be available throughout the year.

Why aren't you open more?

Our space is incredibly limited and as such, we are forced to restrict our hours to busier business times.

As a small vegan scratch based restaurant, our space must be packed up each night for prep shifts in the morning. After preparing elements of our menu, we set that same space for service.

Unfortunately, we don't have the space or resources to expand our hours at this time.

Do you have free parking?

Yes. In addition to free street parking, there is a large parking lot directly across the street from our restaurant.

Do you offer anything in exchange for influencer collaborations?

We appreciate the interest. As a small, community-oriented, independent business, we don’t offer complimentary meals or influencer exchanges. Our focus is on paying our team fairly and covering the real costs of running a scratch kitchen, so we keep our policies simple and treat everyone the same.

We do occasionally offer specials for our weekly regulars as a thank-you for their continued, in-person support, but that’s the extent of our promotional efforts at this time.

Do you donate food or gifts to nonprofit organizations or events?

Yes, on a limited basis. Due to past experiences, we work only with organizations that align with our values and have an established presence in their field, including a documented history of meaningful community engagement and support.
